iPhone Photo Update! • 11.26.2008 •

From time to time, I’ like to post a bunch of pictures that I’ve taken with my iPhone. I manage to compile a rather large amount of fun and strange images in my phone. Every couple of months I like to pick out a few to post on the blog. I actually find myself leaving my regular point-and-shoot camera at home these days, knowing I’ll have my iPhone with me. The quality of the point-and-shoot camera is obviously much better, but there’s a weird aesthetic coolness to images taken with the iPhone.

Here a a bunch of random shots, all taken using my newer 3G iPhone, from the last couple of months:

Kite!

There’s something different about this self portrait, but I can’t quite figure it out:

A random shirt I found while in Santa Barbara:

Again, no comment:

Taken while setting up for the Guava Belly band shoot a few days ago. I can even rock the flare with my iPhone!

Saw this when I was leaving the Canon Service Center a couple days ago. I know I’m probably not supposed to post people’s license plates, but come on… seriously?

This is supposed to be a pot pie.

Last Friday Jen and I attended her yearly office holiday party. Just a few hours earlier we announced to everyone that our baby is going to be a girl. Jen’s friend April gave these to us at the party. It’s getting real now, folks!

Happy almost Thanksgiving!

The Bates-Lamparella Kids • 11.24.2008 •

Last week I had the chance to shoot some holiday portraits for 3 adorable kids at a fun little park over in Tierrasanta. 6 year-old Alex and her twin 9-month old siblings Brandon and Shannon were so much fun to spend time with, and capture some images for this years Christmas cards.

Alex was one of the easiest kids I’ve ever photographed. She’s a super-fun little girl that loves the camera.

The twins were just as adorable, although they preferred to have a little more fun getting dirty.

Shannon:

and Brandon:

A fun shot of the two together:

Getting all three together, focused on me, with something close to a smile was a little tough. It started out ok…

Talk to the hand, sister!

And then it quickly went downhill from there. I love this shot!

Luckily I snagged the cute happy pic a few minutes earlier:

Thanks for a fun time, guys!

This past Sunday I had the opportunity to shoot yet another fantastic group of musicians. The guys in Guava Belly asked to shoot a few portraits for their upcoming record, slated for release in the very near future. They are a great bunch of guys with a fantastic sense of humor. I had a blast hanging out, and here are a few shots from our afternoon:

There’s nothing wrong with a little jowling!

And definitely my favorite shot of the day:

Go check these guys out if they’re playing a show near you!

On Friday afternoon I spent some time with the Gonzalez family shooting a few images for this year’s holiday cards. These two are the proud new parents of beautiful little 4 month old Danica. We spent an hour walking around, enjoying the late afternoon sun. In the midst of all my questions about what it’s like to have your first baby, I also took a shot a few pictures!

The happy family:

Be careful. If you get too close, she’ll try to eat your face!

I snagged this one out of the Happy Family catalogue!

A cute shot of little Danica:

And one more nice family portrait:

Happy Holidays you guys!

A few days ago, I met up with several of my fellow still photographers to spend a couple of hours hanging out and shooting images of each other. We try to meet up as often as our schedules will allow, and we always have a blast photographing each other. Most of the time we’re just being goofy, shooting hilarious images that will likely never get used. But, sometimes we actually get serious and shoot some nice images of each other!

Here is a whole slew of shots from our last couple of get togethers – some serious, some not-so-serious!

Some goofy group stuff. I’m not in them, because I’m shooting them.

And lastly, a little collage of a few of us. I had every one make the goofiest faces they could think of, and then put this little collection together. I’m considering blowing it up into a large piece to hang in my studio because it makes me laugh so much!

Last Friday night I headed downtown to spend my Halloween night photographing Monster Bash ’08 in the Gaslamp Quarter for the wonderful folks at McFarlane Promotions. Those ladies certainly know how to promote a party! I’ve shot this event before, and it’s always fun to see what costumes people come up with.

Here’s the interesting a somewhat funny thing about this post. I was originally NOT going to post images from this event, simply because it’s already November 4th, Halloween is long gone, and events like this don’t really allow for the most creative or groundbreaking images. Last night, however, my wife Jen informed me that a couple of her male friends from work were inquiring about whether or not I’d shot the event, and if I was going to post images. They know that my job during these events is find and shoot the beautiful, scantily clad ladies. After all, who wants to see 37 images of guys dressed as Joe the Plumber? So, this post is for you guys…

First, a shot of the crazy packed in crowd:

And you know it’s going to be a party when DJ Brent Bartel is spinning!

And here are a few shots of the partygoers…

Special thanks goes out to the ladies of McFarlane Promotions for having me out again!
